Helping In The Kitchen Appeases Picky Eaters

Published by slpowell at 2:57 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Have you gone through the phase with your child where he just refuses to try anything new? Is your home plagued by the menu restraining habits of a picky eater? Getting your selective eaters into the kitchen to aid in preparing meals can work wonders. If may not work in every case, but often, you’ll find that kids who help out in the kitchen will eat a broader range of foods. Here are a few reasons why:

  • After all their hard work, they will likely want to reap the rewards and will want to taste their own creations.
  • Helping with the food gives them a feeling of control, particularly if they are allowed to make some of the decisions about what to cook and how it is prepared.
  • Often, children refuse certain foods because they just don’t know what is in them. Being involved in the cooking process allows them to see exactly what goes into the foods they eat.

Let your picky eater take part in cooking tonight’s dinner, even if it is just a small role. You may see a renewed interest in trying new and different foods!

There will be posts upcoming that will include recipes, pictures, meal ideas, etc, but those are postponed for the moment until I get some camera issues dealt with. In the meantime, I have some personal experiences and thoughts relating to cooking with kids that I will be sharing.
