Memorial Day Picnic? Easy Kids Treat!

Published by slpowell at 8:17 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Teach your children about the meaning of Memorial Day, while enjoying each other’s company in the kitchen, preparing a treat for your family picnic. Simple Rice Krispies Treats can be dressed up for the holiday by using Red, White, and Blue confetti sprinkles, which can be found at most larger grocery stores or party shops. The recipe is simple, but supervise carefully, as the stove top is used.

To make the treats, simple melt 3 Tablespoons of butter or margarine in a large saucepan, using low heat. Once it has melted, add an entire 10 ounce bag of marshmallows, stirring until melted. Turn off the heat and pour in 6 cups of Rice Krispies or other puffed rice cereal and stir slightly. Add a handful of the star sprinkles, then stir until thoroughly combined. Pour into a buttered 9 x 13 pan, and press the mixture down firmly, creating an even layer in the pan. Let cool and cut into squares.

*KITCHEN TIP* Spray your hands with cooking spray before pressing the mixture into the pan. This will allow you to work the treats into the pan, pressing them down tightly, without making a mess or dirtying additional utensils.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Yummy! My kids love rice krispies treats and this is one that they need only a little help from me! Which frees me up for the more complicated picnic dishes!

    Thanks!
